How do I delegate my Fixed IP address to SunStar Media for Reverse DNS?

Posted December 5, 2006

If you are running your own internal mail server (Exchange, for example), you'll need to make sure that your reverse DNS lookup is correct.  Example: "mail.yourdomain.com" needs to be set to your IP address so when a mail server does a reverse DNS look-up, it matches the mail server's HELO name.

In many cases, ISPs are unable or unwilling to modify their Reverse Lookup records to accommodate a DSL client with a fixed IP address.  As of the time of this article, this is the case for SBC/AT&T.

To have SunStar Media host your Reverse DNS record(s), please contact us.

If you are a customer of SBC/AT&T, you will need to send them an email message to request the delegation of your IP address(es):

-----------

TO: prov-dns@pbi.net
SUBJECT: "Request to Delegate Reverse DNS"

Include the following information:

1.) Your DSL phone number

2.) IP Address(es) to delegate

2.) domain name to associate the order with

3.) primary & secondary name servers for delegation:
star1.ssmedia.com (64.173.189.2)
star2.ssmedia.com (64.173.189.3)

-----------

If you have any questions or need additional help, please contact us.
