Setup your SunStar Media email account using Microsoft Outlook 2003

Posted December 15, 2006

Here are step-by-step instructions for setting up your email box using Microsoft Outlook 2003.

1.) Open Outlook 2003, and go to "Tools | Email Accounts".

2.) "Add a new e-mail account" should be selected by Default. Click "Next".

3.) Choose "POP3". Click "Next".

4.) Enter your basic user information.

  • User Information:
    • Your Name: Your Full Name
    • Email Address: Your Email Address
  • Server Information:
    • Incoming mail server (POP3): mailhost.ssmedia.com
      • Note: If you are using the Self Serve Hosting / Uniquefocus server (instead of the base SunStar Media server), enter "mail.yourdomain.com" for the POP3 Server Name.
    • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): Enter your ISP's SMTP server.
      • In this example, we will be using AT&T/SBC Yahoo! DSL, where you would enter "smtp.att.yahoo.com"
      • If you are using another ISP, here are some alternative SMTP servers:
        • Comcast: "smtp.comcast.net"
        • Earthlink: "smtp.earthlink.net"
        • MontereyBay.com: "smtp.montereybay.com"
        • Monterey Bay Internet (MBay): "mail.mbay.net"
        • Redshift: "smtp.redshift.com"
      • In rare instances (if you cannot send through your ISP), you may use "mailhost.ssmedia.com", using sending port 587, with SMTP Authentication enabled
    • Logon Information:
      • User Name: Your Email Address
      • Password: Your Email Password

5.) If you need to enable SMTP Authentication (if you are an AT&T/SBC Yahoo! DSL customer, or if you are sending through SunStar Media), click "More Settings", then select the "Outgoing Server" tab.

  • Select the checkbox next to My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication.
  • Log-On Option:
    • AT&T/SBC Yahoo! DSL users - select "Log-On using", and enter your DSL email address and password.
    • Sending through SunStar Media - select "Use same settings as my incoming server".
  • Click "Ok".

AT&T Yahoo! DSL Users ONLY:

5a.) Click the Advanced tab.

  • The Outgoing mail (SMTP) should be port 465 and the box next to This server requires a secure connection (SSL) is checked.

6.) Congratulations. You have successfully entered all the information required setup your account. Click "Finisb"
